                                模拟组合练(三)

Ⅰ.阅读理解

                                      A
(2018 内蒙古包头一模,C)

Wearing a red nose for a day may seem like a strange way to raise money for charity.
However, it seems to work in Britain. Red Nose Day (RND) is a well-known event in the UK.
The aim of the day is to raise money for a charity called Comic Relief which helps people in
need in Africa and in the UK.

Comic Relief was started in 1985 by Richard Curtis. He wrote the series “Blackadder” as

well as the famous films “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and “Notting Hill’’. Richard’s idea to

start Comic Relief was as a response to the severe lack of food in Ethiopia. It’s called Red Nose
Day as on this day many people buy a plastic red nose to wear! The money made from selling

red noses goes to the charity.[来源:学。科。网]
Red Nose Da y takes place every two years in the spring and is now so well developed that
many people consider it to be an unofficial national holiday.

The slogan for the last RND was “Do Something Funny for Money” and the money

collected was used to help fund projects in the following areas: treating malaria, education,

maternal health and mental health. The BBC Red Nose Day telethon raised £ 74.3 million!

Money-raising events take place all over the country and many schools join in. People also
donate money by post, in banks, by phone using a credit card and online.
Getting sponsored to do something is a common way to raise money on RND. If someone
sponsors you it means that they agree to give you a certain amount of money for your actions.
Now you know why you may find some pe ople wearing red noses and doing silly things in
the UK on Red Nose Day! It is all for a good cause!

(2017 四川遂宁三模)

French writer Frantz Fanon once said:“To speak a language is to take on a world, a culture.”

Since the world changes every day, so does our language.
More than 300 new words and phrases have recently made it into the online Oxford
Dictionary, and in one way or another they are all reflections of today’s changing world.
After a year that was politically unstable, it’s not hard to understand the fact that people’s
political views are one of the main drives of our expanding vocabulary. One example is

“clicktivism”, a compound of “click” and “activism”. It refers to “armchair activists”—people who

support a political or social cause, but only show their support from behind a computer or

smartphone. And “otherize” is a verb for “other” that means to alienate (使疏远) people who are

different from ourselves—whether that be different skin color, religious belief or sexuality.

“We had all the words around Brexit in the last update and we are now starting to see all the

words around Trump coming into the dictionary,” Angus Stevenson, Oxford Dictionaries’ head

of content development, told The Guardian.

Lifestyle is also changing our language. For example, “fitspiration”—a compound of “fit”

and “inspiration”—refers to a person or thing that encourages one to exercise and stay fit and
healthy.

The phrase “climate refugee”—someone who is forced to leave their home due to climate

change—reflects people’s concern for the environment.

According to Stevenson, social media was the main source for the new expressions. “People

feel much freer to coin their own words these days,” he said.

But still, not all newly-invented words get the chance to make their way into a mainstream
dictionary. If you want to create your own hit words, Stevenson’s suggestion is that you should
not only make sure that they are expressive and meaningful , but also have an attractive sound so
that people will enjoy saying them out loud.
5.What’s the purpose of the quotation from the French writer Frantz Fanon?
A.To serve as the topic of the passage.
B.To present one of the major views of the society.
C.To show the fact that language mirrors the culture in a way.
D.To lead to the topic of the whole passage.

6.What does the underlined word “coin” in the second-to-last paragraph probably mean?

 A.Use. B.Record. C.Create. D.Change.
7.How is the article mainly developed?
  A.By giving examples.
  B.By making comparisons.
  C.By following a timeline.
  D.By presenting research findings.
8.According to Stevenson, to make the words you invent popular, they should .

[语篇解读] 本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了英国著名的慈善活动“红鼻

子节”,包括它的由来以及一些庆祝活动。

money for a charity called Comic Relief which helps people in need in Africa and

in the UK.可知,慈善机构 Comic Relief 的目的是帮助非洲和英国需要帮助的人,

故答案为 B 项。

2.D 细节理解题。根据文章第二段中 It’s called Red Nose Day as on this day

many people buy a plastic red nose to wear! 可知“红鼻子节”是由出售的产品而

得名的,故 D 项正确。

3.A 细节理解题。根据文章第三段 Red Nose Day takes place every two years

in the spring...可知这项活动每两年在春天举办一次,故 A 项正确。

在变,语言也在发生变化,为下面介绍牛津在线词典新增词汇作铺垫。

6.C 词义猜测题。根据上文 social media was the main source for the new

expressions 及下文 not all newly-invented words get the chance to make their way

into a mainstream dictionary 中的 newly-invented 可知 coin 意为“创造”。

7.A 篇章结构题。根据文章第三段中的 One example is...,第五段中的 For

example...,以及第六段中的 The phrase “climate refugee”...可知本文主要是通过

举例说明的。

8.D 细节理解题。根据文章最后一段中 If you want to create your own hit

words, Stevenson’s suggestion is that you should not only make sure that they are

expressive and meaningful, but also have an attractive sound so that people will

make a living 谋生;make a fortune 发财。

12.A 作者坚持不收费,此处表示“有其他(other)乘客”。

13.D 根据第一段中的 small woman 和后面的 gave her a hug 可知作者弯下腰

(bent)拥抱了这位老人。

14.C 由上文可知,老人的生命即将结束,所以去了临终关怀医院,故门关上的声

音象征着生命的终结,故 life 正确。

15.A 此处表示“急着结束自己的轮班”的司机。impatient               迫不及待的;

impolite 没礼貌的;unwilling 不情愿的;disappointed 失望的。

16.B 句意:假如我拒绝出这次车或者鸣了一次笛就开车离开会如何呢?根据句

意可知“拒绝”符合语境。

17.D 根据下文内容可知,作者对所做的事情做了快速的回顾(review)。
                 中国现代教育网 www.30edu.com 全国最大教师交流平台

18.C 根据作者所做的事情以及他的各种设想可知,他认为自己做了最为重要
