W: It’s one of the earliest surviving libraries in the world, and it has one of the

building in 1537. He died in 1570, but in 1588, Vincenzo Scamozzi finished

construction of the library. Even before the library was finished, books were

  Uber

Uber is available in over 450 cities throughout 73 countries worldwide. You

can either choose a typical Uber unmarked car or regular taxi. The app can show

you where drivers are, so you know how long you’ll be waiting. You can also get

fare quotes(报价) in advance. Your payment source is linked to the app and is

automatically charged, so no physical money is ever needed.

  Lyft

Lyft is a service that is also available in many large cities in the US. However,

it offers something different, one of which is Lyft Line. With this service, you

can find people that take the same route on a daily basis as you and split the fare with

them. Lyft’s regular service lets you easily see where rides are, catch one, and

easily pay right within the app.

  Easy Taxi

Easy Taxi is available in 86 cities across 26 countries and lets you quickly scrub

through maps and find locations you’d like to be picked up at. From there, just

make sure there are taxis in your area. Confirm your ride and then pay for it within

the Easy Taxi app. Once you book a ride, you should see the taxi’s plate number

and phone number appear on the map, making it easy for you to pick out both the

car and the driver.

  Curb

Mexico. It ties in with taxi companies and their drivers. As your taxi makes its

Chairman of judges Professor Blake Morrison said, “Set over a few hours in a

single day, and told in the first-person voice of middle-aged engineer, Mike

McCormack’s Solar Bones transcends these seeming limits magnificently. ”

“Politics, family, art, marriage, health, civic duty and the environment

are just a few of the themes it touches on, in a prose that’s lyrical yet firmly rooted.

”

“Its subject may be an ordinary working life, but it is itself an extraordinary

work. ”

McCormack called on more publishers to take risks with experimental au thors.

“Readers are smart. They’re up for it, ” he said.

Whenever you buy something, it is possible that someone has already worn,

eaten, or tested it to make sure it is safe and does what it is supposed to do. But what

if you want a special suit to keep a shark (鲨鱼) from hurting you? Who wants to

test a product like it?

“I do! ”says Jeremiah Sullivan, a scientist in California, “You have to believe in

what you sell, right? ”

Sullivan owns Shark Armor Tech, a company that makes a $ 4, 450 shark suit

that even a great white shark can’t bite through. Before Sullivan could sell his shark

suits, he needed to make sure his design would work. Sullivan put on the shark suit

and jumped into a shark feeding ground. “I need to know exactly what a human body

could expect to go through, ”he says. Sharks moved all around him and then attacked

his arm. Sullivan felt the bite but no teeth. “I was uncomfortable at times, but not

painful. The suit worked! ”

“I’ve now been bitten thousands of times but never badly, ”says Sullivan, who

now works with shows like Wild Kingdom, and programs for the Discovery

Channel’s Shark Week. So, are you all set to buy a shark suit? Before you do, you

should know that the suit weighs 20 pounds and makes swimming almost

impossible—not so practical for a day on the beach. And in fact, Sullivan wants only

professionals, such as film-makers, scientists and drivers, to have shark suits. Why?

Because even if someone is wearing a shark suit, they would get seriously hurt if they

Persuasion is the art of convincing someone to agree with you. According to

the ancient Greeks, there are th ree basic tools of persuasion: ethos, pathos and

logos.

Ethos is a speaker’s way of convincing the audience that she is trustworthy,

honest and reliable. One common way a speaker can develop ethos is by explaining

how much experience or education she has in the field. After all, you’re more

likely to listen to advice about how to take care of your teeth from a dentist than a

fireman. A speaker can also create ethos by convincing the audience that she is a

good person. If an audience cannot trust you, you will not be able to persuade him

or her.

Pathos is a speaker’s way of connecting with the audience’s emotions. For

example, a politician who is trying to convince a person to vote for him might say

that he alone can thus making them support him. Similarly, an animal charity

might show person pictures of injured dogs and cats, to make the viewers feel pity.

If the audience feels bad for the animals, they will be more likely to donate money.

Logos is the use of facts, statistics, or other evidence to support your

argument. An audience will be more likely to believe you if you have convincing

data to back up your claims. Presenting this evidence is much more persuasive than

simply saying believe me.

Although ethos, pathos and logos all have their strengths, they are often most

effective when used together. Indeed, most speakers use a combination of ethos,

pathos and logos to persuade their audiences. So, the next time you listen to a

I’m writing to you concerned the problem of global warming. When I watched

TV, I was surprising to watch the weather forecast saying that it was going to be

warmer. If it continues, people would have no place to live. These years, the

earth has become warmer and warmer owing to humans’ activity. For example,

people use too many energy in order to develop economy without caring about the

earth. Meanwhile, factories give out too much carbon dioxide what has a great

influence on the increase of temperature of the earth. So I hope everyone should

pay attention to protect the earth. Please remember it: Protecting the earth is

protecting ourselves.

concerning。

6. 【解析】第五句的 many→much。

7. 【解析】第六句的 out→off。

8. 【解析】第六句的 what→which/that。

remember 的内容是后面的“Protecting the earth is

protecting ourselves.
