Experience around food is about the place. The time and the people, and “the best meal” can be found in a

fine dining restaurant or in a crowded street market. How can you recreate that special moment influenced by place

and time? Travel is becoming the most popular reason to visit many places around the world. Here are the places

that consistently excite the senses.

South of France

Markets with fresh fruits and vegetables and butcher shops are abundant. Regional ( 地 区 的 ) wines are

excellent. And freshly baked French bread with French butter is what memories are made of. Take a chair in an

ancient walled city for a meal with a view that you will never forget.

Barcelona

This bustling city filled with unique buildings is a city for lovers of history, architecture, and food. Kiosko

Universal, a counter restaurant at one comer of the market, prepares some of the simplest and best food we’ve ever

had. Give yourself a week to explore and see everything the city offers. The city is not to be missed.

Italy

It’s hard to choose one place or city to visit. Some of our favorite places include the coastal regions on the Adriatic

and Tuscany. Friuli stole our hearts last year with its many unique wines, small artisan food producers, and

influences from neighboring countries like Austria and Germany.

Mexico City

From unbelievable food markets and casual street stands, Mexico City has become the place to travel for the food
lovers. If you want to eat locally, order a Hurache, a street food specialty. All you will need is a local microbrew or

Mezcal (龙舌兰酒) to wash it down.

Time and how we experience it have always puzzled us. Physicists have created fascinating

theories, but their time is measured by a pendulum(钟摆)and is not psychological time, which

leaps with little regard to the clock or calendar. As someone who understood the difference remarked,

“When you sit with a nice girl for two hours it seems like a minute, but when you sit on a hot

stove, a minute seems like two hours.”

Psychologists have long noticed that larger units of time, such as months and years, fly on swifter

wings as we age. They also note that the more time is structured with schedules and appointments,

the more rapidly it seems to pass. For example, a day at the office flies compared with a day

at the beach. Since most of us spend fewer days at the beach and more at the office as we age,

an increase in structured tune could well be to blame for why time seems to speed up as we grow

older.

Expectation and familiarity also make time seem to flow more rapidly. Almost all of us have had

the experience of driving somewhere we’ve never been before. Surrounded by unfamiliar scenery,

with no real idea of when we’ll arrive, we experience the trip as lasting a long time. But the

return trip, although exactly as long, seems to take far less time. The unfamiliarity of the journey
                         中国现代教育网 www.30edu.com 全国最大教师交流平台

has become routine. Thus taking a different route on occasion can often help slow the clock.

When days become as identical as beads(小珠子)on a string, they mix together, and even months

become a single day. To fight this, try to find ways to interrupt the structure of your day—to

stop time. Learning something new is one of the ways to slow the passage of time. One of the reasons

the days of our youth seems so full and long is that these are the days of learning and discovery.

For many of us, learning ends when we leave school, but this doesn’t have to be.

   GCSEs not fit for purpose

GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education,普通中等教育证书)encourage "teaching to the

test" and may be past their sell-by date, according to Britain's leading business organization.

The Confederation of British Industry(CBI) warns that the qualification is stopping teachers

delivering an "inspirational classroom experience" and should be replaced.

John Cridland, the CBI director general, said industry faced a shortage of key skills, particularly

in science and maths. The CBI(英国工业联合会), which represents more than 240,000 companies,

is also concerned about the 40% of young people who fail to achieve the benchmark of five good
GCSE passes including English and maths. The percentage of pupils who reach this standard is the

main measure of school success.

Speaking at the launch of a CBI inquiry into education, Cridland argued that abandoning GCSEs

could help deliver a full education. "There's something about this GCSE limitation which produces

a form of learning ------ teaching for the test.’’

"It frustrates teachers because it stops them delivering that inspirational classroom experience."

The CBI head suggested that raising the school leaving age to 18 – a change that comes into effect

in 2015 – is an opportunity to reform the system. "It seems to me that we've raised the

participation age to 18 and we're left with an education system that focuses on 16," said Cridland.

More than 600,000 children in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are due to take GCSEs this summer.

Many other countries do without a public exam at 16. Finland, the highest performing school system

in Europe, has just one public exam, at 18, though children are regularly tested at younger ages.

8.What does the author intend to tell us in paragragh1?

A.“Teaching to the test” should be encouraged.

B. We should stop teachers delivering “inspirational experience”.

C. The current qualification is out of date and should be replaced.

D. The Confederation of British Industry should be replaced.

9.What’s the main idea of the passage?

A. The British GCSEs are no longer practical and should be reformed.

B. In the GCSEs system , teachers don’t have freedom.

C. Five good GCSEs is hard to achieve.

D. The British Education Department will reform education system.
